UN Body Asked For Investigation Of Israel’s Human Rights Report

The move comes in the wake of the newest surge in force in the Israel-Palestinians battle. If passed, it would mark an unusual level of inspection authorized by the UN’s top human rights body.

The draft resolution calls on the council to “Instant establish an ongoing independent, international commission of query” arranged by the council president to look into violations of international humanitarian and human-rights warrant in Israel and Palestinian places.

The commission will also be investigated “all basic root causes of recurrent tensions, unreliability and protrection of battle” including discrimination and repression, they said.


A commission of investigation is the highest level of scrutiny that the council can permit. Another COI has been regularly reporting on Syria’s war nearly since its foundation a decade ago – partially in hopes of collecting evidence that could be used in court one day.

Council spokesman Rolando Gomez said a section of the plan resolution would mark the first time that a commission of analysis received a “continuing directive.”


Israel previous at times by the United States absolves the council of anti-Israel bias and has generally refused to cooperate with its investigators. Israel’s agent, Meirav Eilon Shahar, has announced on member states to meet at Thursday’s meeting.

The particular session is the 30th at the council, and the ninth on the issue of the “Occupied Palestinian Territories” alone the last was in May 2018. The council’s most previous session, of Myanmar, was held in February.


The United States, under President Donald Trump, had exited the council in mid of 2018 – partly over his administration’s claims that the council has an anti-Israel bias. President Joe Biden has given back the US to participation, and the US plans to seek a seat next year.
